Bill Yadi offers learning or training workshop sessions in both calligraphy and leather-working in the Hassan neighborhood.
Registration for the workshops is open to anyone interested in calligraphy, handicrafts, or looking for a new activity to break out of their daily routine.
Each session is an opportunity to meet new people, share experiences, and learn new things.
The initiation sessions usually last two hours.
Depending on each person's objective, the sessions can be subject to continuous training for up to a few months.
Calligraphy Workshop
After an introduction to the art of calligraphy in the Arab world, the first step is to learn the basic rules of calligraphy, the rules of measurement, geometry, and aesthetics, and then to apply practice exercises using traditional tools such as the Kalam and ink.
Objectives
- Sensitizing attendees to the aesthetics of calligraphy, highlighting the importance of balance and harmony in each piece.
- Imparting a comprehensive understanding of the geometric rules that govern the art of calligraphy.
- Providing hands-on experience with traditional calligraphy tools, such as the Kalam and ink, through practical exercises.
- Fostering a sense of community and connection through the shared experience of creating art.
Leatherworking Workshop
The objective is to introduce the process of creating an object from a raw material. In a practice exercise which consists of making a leather article, the participants apply the different stages of design: design (patterning), cutting, assembling, and finishing. At Bill Yadi, we prioritize sustainability and waste reduction. We value every piece of leather and aim to minimize waste. While not all scraps can be repurposed, we make a conscious effort to use leftover materials in our leatherworking workshop.
Objectives
- Providing attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the skills and expertise possessed by Moroccan artisans, with the goal of raising awareness and appreciation for their work.
- Learn the fundamental rules of the creation process that can be applied in different fields through practice exercises and hands-on experience during the workshop sessions.
